Subject:Utena essay
Time:02:54 pm
I wrote an essay about SKU.

Utena's Revolution or la Fin de l'Ancien Régime Romantique

One of SKU's most fascinating feminist critique is the study of the role of power and inequity in human relationships – especially but not only romance between me and women – and the harms it cause to people. Some of it is explored through the core political concept of Princehood and Revolution.

( fake cut )

Hope you enjoy! :D

This is Ohtori Prologue. The before-it-all tale. The very beginning of the game of revolution. All the characters are present in the form of their past lives. Set in an Elizaethan era kingdom known as Terre de Conte it a period where real princes, dukes, and knights walk the earth. Where balls and masques are held for the highest ranking of society. Where men and women will fight and die in the name of honor and nobility. Akio Ohtori is now Crown Prince Akio, engaged to Her Highness, Crown Princess Kanae. The Student Council is now an elite order who aid the crown. And the Rose Bride is the Crown Princess' gentle and quiet sister-in-law; her hand much sought after.

Who was your character before the era of Ohtori Academy? Who is their PB? And how will they play the game of revolution in this new setting?

{Ohtori Prologue is a historical SKU PB game}

Subject:Subtle Kind of Cruel

I got the same thing. It seemed like everyone at Ohtori had somekind disorder or black secret to them. If you play the game though it kinda seemed like the school didn't even exist, it was just like this huge building of rubble the was made into the illusion of the school. Which is, I think more cryptic symbolism.

I'm also trying to work on an essay about Anthy's aggressive side. I know alot of people will be like, what aggressive side? But if you look hard at the series you'll notice how subtly cruel she is alot of time. Not that she doesn't have reason to, considering her situation.

For example how she kind subtly taunted Saionji by calling him 'classmate' after he lost to Utena. Or when she offered the rose to Juri the same wey Shiori did in Juri's flashback.

I'm a bit confused about what exactly the school was? It seemed like a haven for people who had some sort of past pain but it's rather baffling O.o

Oh by the way, we started a new Utena RP where the revolution never happened and all the characters moved on to, dun dun dun, Ohtori College!! Like almost all the characters are untaken so shimmy on over!

Subject:The Counterfeit Prince...

Touga.

So bad he's mm-mm good. Personally I think Touga is one of the most interesting characters in the series and the movie. Even if I am jealous that he got to sleep with Akio Touga is rather complex since he always seems like he's in control when really he's being so completely manipulated by Akio. In fact, I think Touga is the one manipulated the most since Akio is not only pulling his strings but pulling the strings of others through him. Akio gives him just enough power to believe he could get more, that there actually is eternity in a illusionary castle in the sky.

Honestly I think Touga is even more aware then he seems. I believe he knew that the castle was a fake as well as just how tight a hold Akio had on his puppet strings. These things, however, gave Touga a taste of the strenth he craves. All of Akio is made up of students who have their own personally darkness, some aspect or memory that taints them. Touga believed that power, even false as it was, could exorcise the shadows that lurked in his heart.

I liked Touga in the movie far more then Touga in the series, despite the little screen time he got. The fact that, in the series Touga tricked Utena into believing he was her prince and in the movie he actually was, makes me wonder how closely the movie and the series are tied. Touga's flashback to his childhood would explain quite a bit about his motivation in the series (Although where the hell is Nanami?)

Swooning? I am! I am!
